Competition Regulations


 The third international theatre poster competition is held within the framework of
the X International Festival-Laboratory of Chamber Theatres and Small-Scale Performances
"MOLDFEST" (Moldova, Chisinau).

The main idea of ​​the competition is to further the creative development of theatrical poster as an art form, strengthen international cultural ties, and provide artists from anywhere in the world with the opportunity to participate in the competition.

The competition is held in two nominations.

  1. Traditional theatre posters.
  2. Promotional videos of performances created for display on city advertising electronic boards (billboards, citylights), on the Internet, and in electronic applications.

A distinctive feature of this competition is that there will be two jury panels:

  1. The jury of artists, which consists of highly professional artists, recognized masters.
  2. The jury of theatre critics, whose members are theatre scholars, critics, and theatre specialists.

In this way, competition entries are assessed as artistic works and as part of a multifaceted theatrical process.

The competition will be held in two stages:

  1. Online competition. All submitted works will be posted on the official competition website www.postercontest.org . Anyone can vote for their favorite work directly on the website. Submissions will close on October 31st . Official online voting will begin on November 1st and conclude with the conclusion of the theater festival.
  1. In-person stage. The competition jury will select approximately 70 theater posters and 20 promotional videos to form part of the exhibition. The exhibition will run for approximately 10 days at the State Youth Drama Theater "From Rose Street"  during the International Theater Festival in December 2018.

At the end of the exhibition, the jury will select three winning works in each category. The authors of these works will be awarded honorary diplomas and commemorative prizes.

In both nominations, winners of the online voting will be determined and will receive honorary diplomas of the winner of the online voting.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to vote for one of the works. The Audience Choice Award will be awarded based on the results of this vote.

No more than two works created in 2015-2018 are submitted to the competition for any performances or plays, in each nomination.

Requirements for work:

  1. Posters can be made using any technique on A1 paper, in *tif or *jpeg format with a resolution of at least 150 dpi.
  2. Advertising videos must be no longer than 40 seconds in any format: avi, fla, mp4.

Works must be sent along with the application for participation of the established form by email to plakat2018@bk.ru before October 31, 2018 .

The works selected by the jury are printed by the organizing committee.

The winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony. All participants will receive participation certificates. Certificates for both winners and participants will be sent by email. A video will be produced based on the results of the Competition and will be shown online.

A bit of history:

The first international theater poster competition was held in 2013
as part of the "Friends' Meetings in Odessa" arts festival, with the participation of the State Theater Agency of Russia and the Union of Theater Workers of Russia.
Over 140 artists from 17 countries participated in the competition,
with over 400 submissions.

The second international competition was held in 2017
as part of the XI A. Vampilov International Theatre Festival of Contemporary Drama.
The festival took place in September 2017 at the N.P. Okhlopkov Irkutsk Academic Drama Theatre in Irkutsk, Russia.
Over 300 artists from 34 countries participated in the competition,
which received over 800 submissions.
